On Friday 23rd March 2007, the Mayor and Mayoress of Bournemouth, Councillor Bob Chapman and Mrs Barbra Johnson opened a new development of residential apartments just three minutes walk from the beach at Boscome. The development entitled The Reef was built by Roxan Construction of Southampton.

In house designer Laleh Yeganegy proposed a glass and stainless steal sculpture for the central courtyard area. After some searching for a suitable glass producer she found Integrated Glass Forming (IGF), near Bristol. Who produce fused and kiln formed glass to the clients design requirements. As a result of meeting with Mike Rowe at IGF a fused design of coloured glass fish was chosen. It was envisaged that these would be ‘swimming’ above a planted area within the Courtyard, this shoal of fish comprise of 12 panels of sizes up to 1200mm x 800mm.

Mike managed all technical aspects of the glass work including safety coating, this leaving the artist able to concentrate on the artist effect to be created.
